Hand Self Portrait Painting Workshop--Dec 2026
Color, structure, and value—there are so many essential elements that come together to create a convincing, lifelike hand. In this four-day, in-person workshop, you’ll learn how to bring all of these components together to paint your own hands with confidence.
On the first day, we will photograph each participant’s hands to create personalized reference images that you’ll work from throughout the workshop. We’ll begin by exploring hand anatomy to better understand the underlying bone structure, which serves as the foundation for realistic form. From there, we’ll focus on building dynamic skin tones, mixing accurate values, and making intentional brushstroke choices that bring your painting to life.
Each day will include in-depth, live demonstrations where I guide you step-by-step through my painting process—sharing insights into color mixing, mark-making, and the subtle nuances that give hands their realism and character. There will be plenty of time for questions, individualized feedback, and hands-on guidance as you develop your painting.
Oil paint will be provided for students. Students will need to bring the other supplies from the supply list. Easels, tables, chairs, and paper towels will all be provided.
