Painting Realistic Hands Workshop
3-Day Online Workshop

Color, structure, values—there are so many key elements that go into painting a convincing, lifelike hand. In this three-day online workshop, you’ll learn how to bring all of those pieces together to create realistic hands with confidence.

We’ll begin by diving into hand anatomy to better understand the bone structure, which serves as the foundation for realistic form. From there, we’ll explore how to paint dynamic skin tones, mix accurate values, and make deliberate brushstroke choices to bring hands to life on the canvas.

Each day includes detailed demonstrations where I’ll walk you through my painting process—explaining every brushstroke, color mixing decision, and the subtle nuances that make painted hands look realistic and full of character. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions throughout, whether you’re a full participant or attending as a view-only student.

Workshop Structure:
Day 1:
We'll start with a quick overview of my palette, brushes, and mediums. Then, I’ll jump into the first demonstration while taking live questions from students.
Day 2 & 3:
Each day will begin with critiques for fully participating students, followed by continued demos and Q&A. This gives everyone the chance to reflect, improve, and grow at their own pace.
You’ll have time after each demo to work on your own painting, aiming to reach a stopping point that feels right for you—no pressure to keep up with me day by day. The focus is on learning, experimenting, and building your understanding of the color mixing and brushwork that create lifelike hands.

What You’ll Receive:
A recording of the entire workshop to keep and review at your own pace.
A pre-workshop video where I’ll walk you through the workshop setup, tracing method, and general structure.
A photo reference and black & white trace-down image, sent a week before we start.
A supply list, sent upon registration.
Class Time:
Exact times will be determined based on participant locations, but sessions will most likely run from 9 AM–12 PM (with possible extensions depending on critique length).
